Mr Erich Thaler is responsible for the Networks and Global Partnerships unit at the University of Basel and Program Director of the Swiss – African Business Development Program SABII. His unit forms part of the President’s Office.
Erich joined the University of Basel in 2007. After heading its Global Affairs unit for several years building up and sustaining global partnerships and networks, today, he coordinates and inspires the Swiss – African Business Development Program SABII, entertains and further develops the Swiss – African research and innovation database SARECO (www.sareco.org), and facilitates access to the European – Swiss funding program Interreg – NRP for members of the University of Basel wishing to engage in transnational research networks with Germany and France. Erich is chairing the EAIE Expert Community on Cooperation for Development (C4D) with its focus on North – South Research and Teaching Cooperation, he is a member of the German Network of Science Managers (NWM) and member of the Swiss expert advisory group on internationalisation for the national board of swissuniversities. Before this position, Erich has held teaching and management responsibilities at Higher Education Institutions and private education providers in Vienna, Munich, Paris, Seoul and Berlin. He lives in Basel (Switzerland), is married and father of a 12 year old boy.
