Dr. Wilmot Allen is an experienced emerging market investor, management consultant, entrepreneur and comparative political economist.
Wilmot is the Founder of VentureLift Africa, a fintech and curation platform for scaling African startups and SMEs through innovative financing and curated matches with the African Diaspora, trade, supply chain, talent and technology partners. He is a Venture Partner with RH Managers, a private equity fund investing in healthcare, based in Johannesburg. Wilmot is also the advisor on strategy to the Africa Union Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Addis Ababa on the development and implementation of a private foundation and investment facility to address Africa’s healthcare needs across the continent.
Wilmot previously worked as the investment execution team lead at the East Africa Trade and Investment Hub as Director of East Africa with a U.S. investment firm, CrossBoundary LLC from Nairobi. The team facilitated over $100 million in closed investment transactions in two years. Prior, Wilmot worked with the International Finance Corporation in Washington DC, executing investments totaling over $300million and managing a portfolio of $2.5billion with the private equity, financial institutions and infrastructure groups. At the IFC, he was also Senior Advisor to the CEO on entrepreneurship initiatives in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, in conjunction with the Global Agenda Council on Youth Unemployment at the World Economic Forum.
In other roles, Wilmot worked as a venture capital investor with the Commonwealth Enterprise Fund in Boston, a technology M&A investment banker with JPMorgan H&Q to Silicon Valley and international companies in San Francisco and an IPO and private placement investment banker with Merrill Lynch in New York. He also worked in media and entertainment as a television creative executive at PBS and with finance and strategy group of ABC Television (Walt Disney Company) in Hollywood.
Wilmot was selected as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum and served on a Global Agenda Council. He is an Adjunct Faculty member at USIU Africa in Nairobi, teaching international business at the Chandaria School of Business. Wilmot has a Ph.D. from Georgetown University in Comparative Political Economy, an MBA from the Wharton Business School, an MPA from Harvard University, and a BA from Yale University.
